Our client an Oil & Gas operations giant are looking to add a Senior Process Engineer to their operations team on their field in Basra, Iraq.

Role will be contract based working on a 28 day on 28 day off rotational basis and will offer an attractive day rate and opportunity to work for a major player in the Energy sector.

About Role

The Senior Process Engineer will be a member of the client Central Engineering Team and report to the Process Engineering Team Lead, providing deep process engineering expertise and judgment in service of the operation and development of the Rumaila field, working closely with Projects and Area Operations to ensure efficient handover of all issues that require engineering input to resolve. Ensure pragmatic solutions are implemented for management of risk, production efficiency improvement, maintenance, defect elimination and engineering standardization in support of safe, reliable and compliant operations.

Key Accountabilities

  • Promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement
  • Champion the client nationalisation program by mentoring Iraqi nationals
  • Provides process engineering expertise to support the wider client organisation through engineering guidance and by performing and reviewing complex, or non-routine process engineering calculations and analyses.
  • Provides process engineering expertise to EQs, MoCs and Projects including coordination with Production/Operations/Maintenance staff to identify/prioritise engineering activities.
  • Provides process engineering expertise to hazard identification and risk assessment processes.
  • Provide assurance on engineering compliance with applicable Standards, Specifications, Codes and Regulations. Ensure that non-conformities and temporary deviations are identified and assessed.
  • Ensure critical process documentation and information, including P&IDs, and Cause and Effect diagrams are kept up to date.
  • Provide procurement engineering support for material requisition development, bid evaluations and supplier documentation reviews.
  • Communicate process engineering lessons learned to the site Operations team and encourage a culture of sharing experience and continuous improvement.
  • Identification of facility optimization options to grow production (debottlenecking) and avoid deferrals.
  • Provides process engineering expertise in performing incident investigations and defect investigations.
  • Provides process expertise to Operations, including assessing design and operating envelope excursions, ensuring that process engineering documentation is up to date.
  • Provides process engineering expertise to delivery of regional actions. Leads on resolution of complex, multi-discipline technical issues where the dominant component is process related.
Essential Education
  • BSc or BEng or MEng (UK), BSc (US), or international equivalent in chemical engineering
  • or relevant engineering subject.
  • Professional accreditation, such as Professional Engineer or Chartered Engineer
Essential experience and job requirements
  • Extensive and relevant industry experience in brownfield operations engineering environments.
  • At least 15 years industry experience with 5 years in international multicultural operational roles across the full value chain of hydrocarbon and water production facilities. Experience in brownfield operations engineering, reliability, modifications and strong technical leadership with influencing capabilities. 
  • An ability to work effectively with other disciplines / teams to understand and assess complex issues and develop pragmatic solutions.
  • Proven ability in practical application of engineering standards and practices for process engineering. Candidate to demonstrate familiarity with all relevant industry process engineering codes, standards and practices (API, ASME, ISO), and relevant experience with key process engineering tools such as Aspen HYSYS & Flare System Analyser, Schlumberger Pipesim etc.

  • Ability to speak Arabic would be beneficial but not essential
