•The purpose of this position includes advising terminal senior management and handling all legal affairs related to corporate governance, claims management and insurance, commercial contracting at the terminal. Claims management works comprise of necessary investigation and assessment of any damages that might occur to cargo, containers, equipment, and other related property and handling claims procedure. This position also requires involvement in project development opportunities as well as knowledge about construction-related matters and agreements. Additionally, this position will be required to deal with governmental authorities in respect of the negotiation of agreements and renewal/ obtainment of applicable permits/ licenses for the operation.

 

•This is a strategic and hands-on position and requires a high level of independency, self-reliance, and ability to quickly connect the dots to influence decision making. You will be exposed to senior executives with varying interests including those of Joint-Venture partners that look for an effective legal professional who can develop fit-for-purpose solutions and represent SCCT when dealing with external parties.

 

•The scope of the job covers all legal, claims, compliance, and insurance matters for SCCT Container Terminal.  While the main stakeholder is terminal senior management, the position will form part of SCCT’s finance leadership team. In this position you will have an indirect reporting line to the Maersk Europe regional legal team. This provides an excellent opportunity for learning and knowledge sharing within and across a professional and expert community.

Job Description:

Acting as the main point of contact at the terminal for legal, corporate governance, claims and insurance-related matters.

•Advising terminal management on all legal issues relating to applicable legislation in all areas &required regulatory requirements from various authorities.

•Coordinating with external lawyers for legal disputes and litigation cases.

•Managing all corporate legal works and procedures of the Terminal (statute, board minutes, general assembly meetings, commercial registry works, powers of attorneys etc) in accordance with applicable laws.

•Owning the dispute handling and claims management process.

•Assisting in the maintenance of operational efficiencies in the terminal through the proper handling of damage reports via an established & well-documented procedure.

•Ensuring that all insurance policies are kept up to date and are applied consistently in close coordination with APMT per APMT global guidelines.

•Reviewing, negotiating, and vetting contracts with any third parties.

•Supporting strategic growth projects and expansion projects.

•Being the official Dawn Raid officer for the terminal.

•Attending hearings, government meetings or court cases as the terminal representative.

•Keeping abreast of relevant developments in law and regulations and informing senior management.


•Requires a university degree with a specialization in law, English section is preferred.•Minimum 5 years’ experience as lawyer (attorney or inhouse counsel), preferably in the port sector, infrastructure or transport and logistics industry (but not a must).•Solid experience and knowledge in regulatory matters and general corporate and commercial legal issues.•Team player with the ability to work independently and mindset to get things done.•Ability to find creative solutions for complex issues.•Strong negotiation and stakeholder management skills (internal and external), business savvy.•Commercial mindset with high level of integrity to deliver high quality results.•Must have ability to anticipate problems, recognize key issues, create contingency plans and execute mitigation plans.•Good written and verbal skills in Arabic and English.•Self-starter, hands-on, good communicator (able to explain complex legal issues to non-legal people), empathy, personal tact.•Well organized and punctual.•Flexible to adapt to changing priorities to operate within a dynamic and rapidly changing environment.
