Job description - Construction lead – Civil
KBR is seeking an experienced civil lead to oversee and drive the safe, compliant, and technically robust execution of civil construction activities across major oil & gas facilities in Iraq. This senior role requires strong leadership, advanced technical capability, and proven experience managing multi-discipline construction interfaces in live operational environments.
Accountabilities / expectations
- Single point accountability (SPA) for all civil construction activities within the assigned plant area, ensuring safe execution, technical compliance, and alignment with project delivery requirements.
- Lead and enforce site safety rules, SIMOPS controls, and construction risk mitigation strategies across all civil scopes, including earthworks, foundations, structural concrete, steel structures, roads, drainage, and underground utilities.
- Own the technical scope, ensuring full understanding of design intent, construction interfaces, tie-ins, and operational constraints. Provide clarity to teams on specifications, IFC drawings, standards, and engineering deliverables.
- Manage multi-discipline interfaces, coordinating civil works with mechanical, piping, electrical, instrumentation, telecom, and commissioning teams to ensure seamless execution and minimal rework.
- Lead contractor performance, ensuring adherence to quality, schedule, safety, and technical requirements. Provide direction, resolve conflicts, and maintain disciplined control of workforce activities.
- Conduct detailed site safety audits, including verification of barricading, excavation safety, lifting operations, scaffolding compliance, and workforce competency.
- Ensure full readiness of work fronts, including approved IFC drawings and design clarifications, completed surveys, geotechnical checks, and layout verification; material availability and correct storage; verified underground utility mapping and clash checks; valid permits, JSA, and risk assessments.
- Drive technical assurance, raising and tracking technical queries (TQs), site instructions (SIs), and field change requests (FCRs) to resolve design gaps or operational constraints.
- Lead construction work pack reviews, ensuring completeness of civil method statements, lifting plans, excavation plans, concrete pour plans, and associated safety certificates.
- Minimize non-productive time (NPT) through proactive planning, early identification of constraints, and ensuring vendor mobilization is optimized and technically justified.
- Oversee quality compliance, including concrete batching and testing, rebar installation and inspection, formwork and shuttering checks, soil compaction testing, structural steel alignment and bolt torquing, civil finishing and coating standards.
- Lead joint walkdowns with construction, QA/QC, commissioning, and operations for system handover, ensuring punch lists are accurate, categorized, and closed efficiently.
- Support commissioning by ensuring civil systems (e.g., foundations, supports, trenches, access platforms, roads) are fully complete, safe, and ready for energization or mechanical completion.
- Provide leadership and mentoring to civil supervisors, foremen, and junior engineers, ensuring strong team capability and continuous improvement.
