Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Review well data, completion configuration, production targets, fluid properties, pressure and temperature data, deviation profile, and known wellbore challenges before approving the ESP application.
- Check and validate ESP sizing, equipment selection, operating envelope, setting depth, cable selection, motor loading, gas-handling requirements, materials compatibility, and surface power requirements.
- Confirm that the proposed ESP string and associated equipment are fit for the well, compatible with available completion equipment, and suitable for installation and retrieval constraints.
- Use recognised ESP design and modelling software, including PETEX/PROSPER, Autograph, SubPUMP or equivalent tools, and challenge vendor models where assumptions or data quality are unclear.
- Identify technical risks, data gaps and wellbore constraints, and ensure suitable mitigations are included in the programme and risk assessment.
- Review installation programmes, procedures, equipment readiness, lifting plans, checklists and contingency plans before mobilisation and execution.
- Verify contractor personnel are trained, competent and authorised for their assigned roles. Stop or escalate the work when competence, equipment condition or procedural compliance is not acceptable.
- Provide site oversight during ESP preparation, installation, testing and commissioning, ensuring compliance with company standards, approved procedures and manufacturer requirements.
- Witness and verify critical assembly, electrical, pressure, rotation, cable, downhole gauge, and surface-system tests, and ensure results are properly recorded.
- Confirm installation records, tally, equipment serial numbers, test certificates, commissioning parameters, and handover documents are complete and accurate.
- Work closely with Production and WRM teams to review ESP performance, production behaviour and optimisation opportunities.
- Support VSD, transformer, switchgear, soft starter, downhole gauge, communications and other ESP surface-equipment troubleshooting.
- Review operating parameters, alarms, trips, trends and well performance to identify the likely cause of underperformance or failure and recommend safe corrective actions.
- Validate optimisation and restart recommendations, considering the approved operating envelope, well integrity, reservoir behaviour and equipment limitations.
- Follow up actions after optimisation, restart, or troubleshooting and confirm that well performance remains stable.
- Monitor ESP performance and run life, maintaining accurate historical records for wells, equipment, failures and corrective actions.
- Lead or support preliminary ESP failure assessments, failure reviews, wash-up meetings and root-cause investigations.
- Connect design, installation and operating feedback so lessons learned are included in future designs, procedures and contractor expectations.
- Identify and implement practical improvements, new technologies and standardisation opportunities that can improve reliability and reduce avoidable failures.
- Provide technical oversight of ESP inventory, spares, repair status, preservation, certification, obsolescence and equipment readiness.
- Confirm that available equipment and spares match forecast well requirements and identify shortages early.
- Provide technical input to procurement scopes, specifications, bid evaluations, call-offs, service quality reviews and factory acceptance tests.
- Manage contractor technical performance, including equipment quality, personnel competence, reporting, responsiveness and close-out of agreed actions.
- Maintain controlled ESP records, design files, installation reports, commissioning data, VSD parameter records, dashboards and technical trackers.
- Demonstrate visible HSE leadership and ensure risks are identified, assessed and controlled before and during ESP activities.
- Maintain clear communication between Well Services, Production, WRM, field operations and contractors, with defined actions and accountable owners.
- Mentor engineers and technicians through coaching, field exposure, design reviews, troubleshooting sessions, and structured knowledge sharing.
- Support development of common ESP standards, workflows, and lessons-learned material across the combined ESP team.
- Provide technical acceptance or rejection of ESP designs, equipment readiness and installation quality within delegated authority.
- Recommend stopping work when there is an unacceptable HSE, competence, equipment, design or procedural risk.
- Escalate unresolved design, integrity, operational, contractor, or commercial risks to the responsible manager and stakeholders.
