Responsibilities:
Instruction & AI/Information Literacy:
Design and deliver engaging workshops and instruction sessions on AI literacy, critical thinking, and technology use. Collaborate with faculty to embed AI tools and information literacy into academic programs. Create and maintain learning materials including Lib Guides, video tutorials, and handouts on AI in research and writing.
Research Support & Digital Scholarship:
Provide expert consultations to students and faculty on AI-assisted research strategies, tools, and platforms (e.g., for text mining, data analysis, literature reviews). Support AI-enhanced academic writing, citation management, and source evaluation. Collaborate with academic departments on interdisciplinary research involving AI technologies.
Library Technology & Innovation:
Recommend, implement, and evaluate AI-powered tools and services in the library (e.g., research assistants, chatbots, metadata tools). Work with systems and digital services to enhance the library's discovery platforms and user interfaces. Monitor trends in AI and machine learning for application in higher education and academic libraries.
Traditional Librarian Responsibilities:
Provide high-quality reference and research assistance both in-person and online. Participate in collection development with a focus on emerging technologies, digital tools, and interdisciplinary resources. Serve as a liaison to designated academic departments, supporting their specific teaching and research needs. Assist with cataloging and metadata enrichment initiatives as needed.
Assessment, Outreach & Engagement:
Assess the effectiveness of instruction and services through feedback and usage data. Conduct outreach and promote library services through events, orientations, and campus partnerships. Contribute to library-wide strategic planning and service development.
Professional Development & Service:
Engage in continuing education and professional activities related to AI and academic librarianship. Participate in university committees, academic initiatives, and collaborative research projects. Contribute to scholarship in AI and librarianship through publications or conference presentations.
Qualifications & Experience
Required:
Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS or equivalent) from an internationally recognized program. Experience providing reference, research support, and instructional services in an academic or higher education environment. Demonstrated ability to teach or support information literacy, critical thinking, and responsible technology use. Working knowledge of emerging technologies relevant to libraries, including AI-assisted research and writing tools. Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and library colleagues. Commitment to ethical information practices, academic integrity, and user privacy.
Preferred:
Experience or demonstrated interest in artificial intelligence applications in research, teaching, or scholarly communication. Familiarity with AI-enabled research and productivity tools (e.g., Chat GPT, Copilot, Gemini, Scite, Semantic Scholar, Elicit). Knowledge of issues related to AI ethics, algorithmic bias, data privacy, and responsible use in academic contexts. Experience developing learning materials such as research guides, tutorials, or workshops. Background or coursework in a related area such as digital scholarship, data services, instructional design, or educational technology. Experience working in an academic library or university setting, including liaison or collection development responsibilities.
