Job summary
The logistics manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing all logistics and supply chain activities for oil and gas projects. This role ensures the efficient, cost-effective, and compliant movement of materials, equipment, and personnel to onshore, offshore, and remote project locations while adhering to HSE, regulatory, and contractual requirements.
Key responsibilities
Logistics & supply chain operations
Plan and manage end-to-end logistics operations including transportation, warehousing, customs clearance, and distribution of project materials and equipment
Coordinate local and international freight (air, sea, road) for project cargo, including oversized and heavy lift items
Manage offshore logistics including vessel scheduling, helideck movements, and marine logistics (where applicable)
Project & stakeholder coordination
Work closely with project management, procurement, construction, and engineering teams to align logistics plans with project schedules
Liaise with freight forwarders, shipping lines, customs brokers, port authorities, and logistics service providers
Support mobilization and demobilization activities for project personnel and equipment
Compliance, HSE & risk management
Ensure compliance with local and international shipping, customs, and trade regulations
Implement and enforce HSE standards across all logistics activities
Identify logistics risks and develop mitigation plans to avoid delays or disruptions
Cost control & reporting
Prepare and manage logistics budgets and control costs
Negotiate rates and contracts with logistics vendors
Track KPIs such as delivery performance, cost efficiency, and inventory accuracy
Prepare regular logistics status reports for senior management and project teams
Team & vendor management
Lead, supervise, and develop logistics and warehouse teams
Evaluate and manage third-party logistics providers and contractors
Ensure proper documentation, recordkeeping, and audit readiness
Qualifications & experience
Education
Bachelor's degree in logistics, supply chain management, engineering, business administration, or a related field
Experience
20 years of logistics or supply chain experience, with at least 10 years in oil & gas, EPC, or major projects
Strong experience in project logistics, international freight, and customs clearance
Middle East or site experience preferred
Skills & competencies
Strong knowledge of oil & gas project logistics and heavy equipment transportation
Familiarity with Incoterms, customs regulations, and international trade compliance
Excellent planning, coordination, and problem-solving skills
Strong vendor management and negotiation capabilities
Proficiency in ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, or similar) and MS Office
Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities
Preferred certifications (optional)
CSCP, CPL, or equivalent logistics certification
HSE / IOSH / NEBOSH certification
Dangerous goods (IATA/IMDG) certification
