Role overview
Responsible for supporting electrical system verification, testing, energization, and commissioning activities to ensure safe and reliable power distribution across the facility prior to plant startup.
Job description
- Perform insulation resistance (IR), continuity, and cable integrity testing for medium voltage (MV) and low voltage (LV) systems.
- Assist in energization of transformers, switchgear, motor control centers (MCCs), uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems, and emergency generators.
- Support protection relay testing, breaker functional testing, and interlock verification.
- Verify proper earthing, bonding, and grounding continuity across electrical systems.
- Participate in staged energization plans and black start procedures under supervision.
- Conduct lighting system testing and hazardous area electrical inspection.
- Record electrical test results and update as-built drawings as required.
- Strictly adhere to electrical isolation, arc flash protection, and lockout/tagout (LOTO) requirements.
- Calibrate and maintain different instrument devices using the latest testing equipment for level, pressure, flow transmitters, fire and gas detectors, analyzers, sensors, pneumatic and motorized valves, etc.
- Read electrical documents including single line diagrams, equipment layouts, schematic/logic diagrams, load list schedules, relay setting documents, earthing/lighting protection layouts, and cable schedules.
- Troubleshoot electrical circuits and provide technical assistance to supervisors to ensure safe operability of electrical equipment.
- Find and remedy faults on electrical field equipment.
- Assist in executing electrical site acceptance testing (SAT) panels, energization, and functional testing of electrical equipment.
- Work on control systems such as SMC, SCADA, RTU, and understand serial communication protocols and tools (Modbus, TCP/IP).
- Ensure correct tool packages are available along with detailed comprehensive commissioning procedures for individual jobs.
- Ensure that all commissioning activities are completed in a safe, efficient, and cost-effective manner.
