Key Objectives:
A Completions / Commissioning Engineer is responsible for planning, executing, and validating the final phases of well construction or facility/system readiness in the oil & gas sector. This hybrid role ensures that wells are safely completed for production and/or that mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and control systems are energized, tested, and verified according to project requirements—leading to a safe, compliant handover to operations.
Key Responsibilities 1. Well Completions Engineering
- Design and implement well completion strategies and equipment (e.g., packers, perforating tools, sand control systems).
- Perform analysis to predict well performance and recommend optimal completion techniques.
- Oversee installation of completion systems and supervise well interventions or workovers.
- Maintain and update well completion databases, ensuring data accuracy for future optimization.
- Ensure completions activities comply with safety and environmental standards.
- Collaborate with geologists, reservoir, and drilling teams to ensure completion designs meet reservoir and well objectives.
2. Commissioning Engineering (Systems & Facilities)
- Develop and maintain Commissioning Execution Plans (CEP), subsystem breakdown structures (SBS), and commissioning procedures.
- Lead Mechanical Completion (MC) to commissioning handover, including dossier verification and punch list categorization (A/B/C).
- Execute pre‑commissioning tasks: flushing, blowing, pressure testing, lubrication, preservation, torque checks, and alignment.
- Perform instrument loop checks, calibrations, and function verifications for pressure, flow, level, and temperature instruments.
- Conduct electrical energization tests, including insulation resistance (IR), polarization index (PI), hipot, relay tests, and VFD/VSD tuning.
- Functionally test mechanical and process equipment (pumps, compressors, top drive, drawworks, pipe‑handling systems, BOP controls).
- Commission safety systems, including ESD, Fire & Gas, deluge/foam, lifesaving equipment, and trip logic testing.
- Support dynamic positioning (DP) trials, marine systems testing, and power generation/distribution commissioning.
3. Project Documentation & Quality Assurance
- Prepare Inspection & Test Records (ITRs), commissioning check sheets, and maintain comprehensive documentation.
- Record, analyze, and interpret commissioning data, identifying deviations and implementing corrective actions.
- Ensure all commissioning and completions activities meet class, flag state, regulatory, and project specifications.
4. Team Collaboration & Leadership
- Coordinate cross-functional teams: drilling, production, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and marine personnel.
- Provide technical guidance and support to junior engineers, operators, and maintenance teams.
- Participate in daily coordination meetings, interface management, and handover readiness reviews.
